Elizabeth Moro Says She Supports Abortion Access, Endorsed by Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania PAC for State House

The Democratic candidate for House District 160 is Elizabeth Moro. Moro was endorsed by Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania PAC, as well as EMILYs List, who announced “we proudly endorsed six Democratic pro-choice women for election to the Pennsylvania General Assembly. We know they’ll work hard to protect our rights and make our communities a better place!”

In a press release announcing her candidacy, Moro wrote, “I will continue to build our community, defend our civil rights, support access to healthcare – including a woman’s right to choose…”

The Republican candidate for House District 160 is incumbent Rep. Craig Williams. Williams ran unsuccessfully in the Republican primary for Pennsylvania Attorney General this year, and is now running to defend his seat in the legislature. During his campaign for Attorney General, Williams stated that he “does not believe the state constitution guarantees a right to abortion access.” Williams has twice voted against adding reproductive rights language to the Pennsylvania Constitution. He also voted to support restrictions on abortion providers that pose undue burdens on the health care providers.

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, the decision on whether to allow access to abortion is now left up to the states. Republican-led legislative majorities throughout the country have tried to push legislation that limits a woman’s right to choose. In Pennsylvania, the Republican-led legislature voted for SB 106 in 2022, which could have amended the state’s constitution to state that the document does not guarantee rights to abortion had it passed a few more legislative hurdles.
