New York City Ballet Celebrates 75 Years

The New York City Ballet is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The company was founded in 1948 by famous choreographer George Balanchine and writer Lincoln Kirstein.

Seventy-five years later, the New York City Ballet now performs 23 weeks a year at the iconic David H. Koch Theater in New York City. This theater opened on April 24, 1964, and has been the ballet's home ever since. The ballet company currently has around 90 performers, and an established ballet academy, The School of American Ballet.

In June, the company performed George Balanchine’s renowned choreography for the ballet Jewels, to celebrate the anniversary. Throughout the rest of the 2024 season, the company is set to put on a variety of performances by New York City Ballet choreographer, Justin Peck
