Juan Soto Signs 15-Year, $765 Million Contract with the Mets

Juan Soto has made history with the most lucrative contract signed by a professional baseball player. His 15-year, $765 million contract with the New York Mets includes a $75 million dollar signing bonus. Soto is a 26-year old from the Dominican Republic, and is joining the team from the New York Yankees, where he signed in 2023. Soto started his Major League Baseball career with the Washington Nationals at age 19. He won a World Series at age 20

The Mets are owned by billionaire owner Steve Cohen, who is worth over $20 billion. In an interview with CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin earlier this year, Cohen said, “I don’t care about the cost side. … If I can make millions of people happy, how cool is that? I actually do it as a civic responsibility.”
