Berlin Zoo Names Twin Panda Cubs

The Berlin Zoo has announced the names of its new panda twins. The cubs’ Chinese names are Meng Hao and Meng Tian, which mean “good dreams” and “sweet dreams.” The zoo announced that the cubs have also been given names with a “Berlin connection,” Leni and Lotti.

The cubs were born in August 2024 to mother Meng Meng and father Jiao Qing. After spending their first several weeks behind the scenes, they are now available to be viewed by the public for one hour a day.
When announcing their public viewing, the zoo’s director, Dr. Andreas Knieriem, said: "I’m so happy that both cubs are developing so well, and that we will soon be able to share our joy with our visitors. Seeing a panda baby with your own eyes is something very special, even for zoo veterans like me. We know from the many inquiries we’ve received that panda fans have been eagerly awaiting this moment. Now, our guests can watch the panda twins grow up daily and learn more about the development of these endangered and fascinating animals."
