Steve Frisbie, GOP Candidate for State House, Endorsed by Pro-School Voucher Organization
Democratic Representative Jim Haadsma, who is running for reelection in Michigan House District 44, says that school funding is one of his top priorities. According to his campaign website, Haadsma says, “I will continue my work ensuring our public schools receive adequate funding to recruit and retain top teachers with the competitive salaries they deserve.”
According to The Albion Pleiad, “One of Haadsma’s greatest political passions is funding education.” Haadsma has said that “[w]e want to continue to fund K-12 education and fortify it so more and more students can be able to attend university” and has talked about making higher education more affordable.
Rep. Haadmsa voted to increase funding for Michigan public schools in 2023, supporting SB 173. According to the Detroit Free Press, the budget “increases per-pupil spending, provides free school meals and enables more families to enroll in Michigan's state-funded preschool program.”
A majority of House Republicans voted against the education bill, with only two Republicans voting for the legislation.
The Republican nominee in District 44 is Steve Frisbie, a Calhoun County Commissioner.
Frisbie’s campaign website says, “Parents deserve the peace of mind that their children are safe and secure in public schools. Steve is committed to enhancing school safety and ensuring parents have a meaningful voice in decisions impacting their children’s future. Together, let’s guarantee every child in Michigan has the opportunity to flourish and succeed.”
Frisbie has been endorsed by the Great Lakes Education Project, which is a “school choice advocacy group founded by Betsy DeVos.”
