State Assembly Candidate Joe Sheehan: Lower Housing, Health Care and Childcare Costs
Democrat Joe Sheehan, who is running for State Assembly District 26, says “our legislature needs to support working families with access to affordable housing, health care, and childcare that they can actually afford.” Sheehan served as the executive director of the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC). At the SCEDC, he supported employers and helped bring new businesses into the area. According to Sheehan, “I know how important a dedicated and available workforce is to our economy.”
Sheehan says he is running for State Assembly District 26 “because we need leaders who will listen and respond to their constituents.” Among the issues he supports are women’s access to health care; funding public education; and addressing air and water quality issues.
Republican incumbent Amy Binsfeld is running for reelection in the race against Sheehan. According to her campaign website, Rep. Binsfeld says she wants “to bring God, family and the United States Constitution back into our homes and schools and move the state forward with integrity.”
Binsfeld says we “need to make sure that just as we live on personal budgets that make sense, so must the government in Madison.” However, she voted for SB 1, which replaced Gov. Tony Evers’ plan to invest in child care workers with a $2.5 billion tax cut, which, according to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, would have largely benefitted the top 20% of income earners in the state of Wisconsin.
Binsfeld currently represents District 27, but is running in District 26 this year due to redistricting.
