State Assembly Candidate David Marstellar Wants to Lower Costs for Wisconsinites

David Marstellar, the Democratic candidate for Wisconsin Assembly District 21, wants to lower costs for the people of Wisconsin, including in the areas of health care and housing. Marstellar had to receive a heart transplant and says he understands how hard it is for the people of Wisconsin to deal with the health care system. “I want to ensure that our friends and families throughout Wisconsin have better, more affordable options,” he says

Another area he says he wants to address is making housing more affordable. According to Marstellar, “[w]e have an incredible opportunity under these new fair legislative maps, signed by Governor Evers, to elect people who want to bridge the divide and make real progress on issues that the majority of people in Wisconsin care about — such as expanding BadgerCare, improving affordable housing, legalizing marijuana, and effectively dealing with crime and reckless driving. That is why I’m running.”

Republican incumbent Jessie Rodriguez says she has supported record investments in education and pro-job reforms. However, she actually voted for SB 1, a bill that rewrote Governor Evers’ proposal to give child care workers $365 million in order to address the child care crisis in the state. Instead of improving education, Rodriguez voted in favor of amending Gov. Evers’ proposed budget to remove items, including a paid family leave program, and to significantly cut funding for mental health programs in public schools.

According to the Wisconsin Examiner, the Wisconsin Senate voted to pass a two-year budget plan that "decreases funding for the University of Wisconsin System and excludes many priorities that were originally included in Gov. Tony Evers’ budget proposal including paid family and medical leave and state funding for the Child Care Counts program.”
