State Assembly Candidate Ryan Spaude Endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin

Ryan Spaude is a Democrat running for Wisconsin State Assembly District 89. Spaude has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin.

In a social media post on X, formerly Twitter, Spaude wrote that “Wisconsin's 1849 abortion law, which criminalizes nurses & doctors, absolutely has to go. Excited to rally yesterday with folks who feel the same way. I trust women to make their own healthcare choices, period.”

Spaude is seeking to join Democrats and gain a majority in the Wisconsin Assembly. Last year, Assembly Democrats attempted to repeal the state’s 1849 abortion ban, which provided no exceptions for rape or incest. A lower court judge has since ruled that the law does not prevent abortion providers from providing services in Wisconsin.

Patrick Buckley is the Republican candidate for Wisconsin State Assembly District 89.

It does not appear that Buckley has taken a public stance on the issue of reproductive rights, which is unusual, given the importance of this issue to voters in recent elections. Buckley has also refused to complete a questionnaire stating his position on reproductive freedom

A majority of Republicans in the Wisconsin Assembly voted against repealing the 1849 abortion ban. According to the Wisconsin Examiner, “Wisconsin Republican lawmakers — 63 Assembly representatives and 22 senators — voted this week to uphold the state’s 1849 abortion ban, which makes no exceptions for rape or incest.”
