State Assembly Candidate Joe Plouff Says He’ll Work to Protect Abortion Rights

Joe Plouff is the Democratic nominee for Assembly District 92, after defeating Caden Berg in the August 13 primary.

Plouff has stated that he supports protecting abortion access and “keeping healthcare decisions private.” His campaign website says, “[p]rivate healthcare decisions should not be determined by politicians or the government. Joe will work to protect these personal freedoms, including the right to an abortion.”

Clint Moses, who currently represents District 29, is the Republican incumbent running for reelection in Assembly District 92 under this year’s new legislative maps.

In the Wisconsin Assembly, Rep. Moses has supported abortion bans on more than one occasion. In 2023, Moses voted against repealing Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban, which did not have any exceptions for rape or incest. According to the Wisconsin Examiner, this vote marked “the first floor vote lawmakers have taken on the issue since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and Wisconsin doctors stopped providing abortions.”

More recently, Rep. Moses voted for Assembly Bill 975, which would call for a statewide referendum for a 14-week abortion ban. According to the Associated Press, “Democrats blasted the bill as government overreach, insisting that women should be allowed to make their own choices about reproductive care.” Moses also stated his opposition to abortion on a candidate questionnaire.
