Zoos In Florida Get Creative With Cool Down Methods
It can be a challenge to escape the summer heat, especially for animals living outdoors in zoos, as heat waves have swept across the country.
At Zoo Miami, a chimpanzee named Hondo celebrated his birthday with an ice cake which was created with frozen Kool-Aid, according to Axios.
While Hondo enjoyed his ice cake, other animals took dips in the zoo’s pools of ice and or relaxed in the breeze of fans.
The zoo has also deployed “bloodsicles” for its resident carnivores. These icy treats are made out of frozen meat juice, and have been used in zoos across the country to help animals beat the heat.
These are just a few of the unique ways zoos have kept their animals cool so far this summer.
