State Assembly Candidate Yee Leng Xiong Says He’ll Fight to Protect Reproductive Freedom

Yee Leng Xiong, the Democratic candidate for Wisconsin State Assembly District 85, says he’ll fight for reproductive freedom. Marking the two-year anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Xiong said earlier this year, “While abortion remains legal in Wisconsin it is still under constant attack by those seeking to undermine the reproductive freedoms granted to Wisconsinites. I promise to do all I can to protect reproductive freedom in Wisconsin.”

Xiong has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin.

The day after the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, which overturned Roe v. Wade, he posted the following on Twitter, now X: “Disappointed and frustrated. But don’t stop. Get up, and be the change you want to see!”

Xiong will face off against the Republican incumbent, Pat Snyder, who was first elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2016.

Rep. Snyder has a record of supporting abortion bans, voting to uphold Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban, which had no exceptions for rape or incest, and voting in favor of a bill that would have called for a statewide referendum for a 14-week abortion ban.

After the Dobbs decision, the issue of abortion is now left up to the states, causing it to be a hot-button issue in the upcoming elections. This is especially true in Wisconsin, where the state’s 1849 abortion ban caused abortion providers to pause their services for nearly 15 months while the issue worked its way through state courts.
