Rep. Shannon Zimmerman Voted Against Repealing Wisconsin’s 1849 Abortion Ban. His Opponent Alison Page Says She Will Always Fight for a Woman’s Right to Choose

Democrat Alison Page, who is running for State Assembly District 30, says she will always fight for “restoring a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body in Wisconsin.”

According to her campaign website, “for too long, MAGA Republicans in the State Assembly have ignored the needs of our families. They’re taking away a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions and ignoring rural health care.”

Page has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin. Page says her mission is “making the world a better place for children and the families they live in, starting in Western Wisconsin.”

Page is running against Republican incumbent Shannon Zimmerman. Rep. Zimmerman has indicated on a candidate questionnaire his opposition to abortions. He also voted to reject an amendment that would have repealed the state’s 1849 abortion ban, which took effect after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, causing abortion providers to stop offering services in the state. Just last year, a Dane County judge ruled that providers could restart services, but anti-abortion groups are still working to uphold the ban. 

Rep. Zimmerman also voted for AB 975, which “would call for a binding statewide referendum to ban abortion after 14 weeks of pregnancy,” according to the Associated Press.
