L.A. District Attorney to Review Menendez Brothers Case

Los Angeles county district attorney, George Gascón, is reviewing potential new evidence in the case of Erik and Lyle Menendez, the brothers who were convicted of killing their parents more than 35 years ago.

At a press conference addressing his decision, Gascón clarified that “[n]one of this information has been confirmed.” He continued saying, "[w]e’re not, at this point, ready to say that we either believe or do not believe that information…But we’re here to tell you that we have a moral and ethical obligation to review what is being presented to us and make a determination."

A new Netflix show about the case has once again brought attention to the 35-year old case. The brothers were sentenced to life in prison in 1996. They are currently serving their sentences at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, California.

A hearing is scheduled for November 29, 2024.
