Highlights from the U.S. Olympic Trials

In the run-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics, United States athletes successfully concluded their Olympic trials. Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles achieved first place in the all-around competition U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials. This is Biles' third straight Olympic team, making her the first American woman to achieve this accomplishment in more than two decades. 

Quincy Wilson, became the youngest male American on the United States’ Olympic track team. Wilson beat Justin Robinson’s record for the 400-meter dash for athletes under-18, running a 44.59 race. Sha’Carri Richardson placed first in the 100 meters at the Olympic trials with a time of 10.71 seconds, making her race “the fastest women’s 100 time in the world this year,” according to NBC News. 

The defending U.S. Open champion, Coco Gauff, finally gets her chance to compete in the Olympics after she was unable to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19. Gauff was the first player to qualify for the United States’ Olympic tennis team. 

The 2024 Olympics will take place from July 26 through August 11 in Paris, France.
