Boeing Lays Off 400 Workers in Washington State
Boeing laid off almost 400 workers in Washington state, the second round of layoffs in the state in the past few months. In November 2024, the company announced it would be letting go of 2,199 Washington employees. The total number of layoffs in the state is now nearly 2,600. Boeing first announced in October that it would be cutting its workforce by 10%.
The company said that most of the workers affected will continue to get paid for about two months.
A company spokesperson said, “[a]s announced in early October, we are adjusting our workforce levels to align with our financial reality and a more focused set of priorities. … We are committed to ensuring our employees have support during this challenging time.”
Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg told employees, “[w]e know these decisions will cause difficulty for you, your families and our team, and I sincerely wish we could avoid taking them. … However, the state of our business and our future recovery require tough actions.”
