"There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a humiliated man."

Even though Ryan Murphy claimed American Horror Story: Cult would be about the 2016 election, every trailer and video clip leading up to its release featured knife-wielding clowns, ominous people in hazmat suits, and creepy bugs. But the first episode proved that Donald Trump’s win in the November 2016 election is instrumental to the new season of Ryan Murphy’s show. From the characters’ disparate reactions to the horror movie events which occur in the wake of Trump’s win, the election is AHS: Cult‘s inspiration, and that’s exactly why the first episode is so scary.

Here’s everything we learned from the premiere:

1) AHS: Cult is very much set in our world, right now.

The episode opens with real-life footage of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton during their respective campaigns. The news clips end with Clinton saying, "You can’t just say whatever pops into your head if you want to be the president of the United States of America." While Trump has disproven this theory on multiple occasions, it’s an indication that the shock and disbelief Clinton voters have felt since election night is this season’s inspiration. A reporter says onscreen, "There is a real, palpable fear out there today," and it’s this instability that sets the mood for the rest of the episode.

2) This season follows two very different factions.

Sarah Paulson’s Ally stares in disbelief at the television as Clinton concedes the race. Meanwhile, in a basement elsewhere, Evan Peters’ Kai announces that "the revolution has begun," and proceeds to aggressively thrust his body against the television. Even if AHS: Cult manifests its horror in clown-like murderers, it seems its purpose is to show the tension between Clinton and Trump supporters.

3) Evan Peters’ Kai, this season’s antagonist, models himself on Trump.

Aside from humping the TV screen when the winner is announced, Kai attempts to physically emulate Trump in a very specific way: by putting cheese puffs into a blender and rubbing them all over his face to get the president’s orange glow. He also styles his hair into Trump’s signauture quiff. The look (in all its horror) is complete.

4) Billie Lourd’s Winter lives with Kai but has very different politics.

Hearing the news that Trump is president, Winter asks a friend over the phone, "What if I get pregnant now? Where will I get an abortion?" Her concerns are the concerns of women all over the country. However, despite having an allegiance to Clinton, Winter lives with Kai, and as the episode progresses, it becomes clear that she might not be immune to committing acts of violence.

5) Twisty is back, but not in the flesh—yet.

As the trailer already revealed, AHS: Freak Show‘s Twisty is back, but only in comic book form. Though he appears in a slasher-esque scene and murders a couple who are about to have sex, it turns out that Ozzy, Ally and Ivy’s kid, is just reading a comic book about Twisty and imagining the story in his head.

However, as clowns appear to roam the streets post-election, it wouldn’t be surprising if the real Twisty appeared…

Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

6) This season is about "trigger warnings," and the lack of them.

Ozzy’s Twisty comic book triggers his mom’s coulrophobia. When Ozzy has night terrors, Ally is concerned. "My phobias are starting to affect our son," she says. But clowns aren’t her only worry; she tells her therapist she also hates "confined spaces, the blood particles in the air, the dark, that coral thing that’s been staring at me since I came in here."

When Winter announces that CNN should have had a trigger warning before calling the election results, it’s an important pre-cursor to the season. Some horrors we can’t avoid—particularly in a post-election world we have zero control over.

7) Mediocre white men are the most terrifying monsters of all.

In a town council meeting, Kai suggests having less police officers on the streets is better—a way to encourage a society of fear. In response to his outlandish requests, Ally’s friend Councillor Chang says, "I appreciate that a lot of you 4chan guys feel empowered to join the rest of us in civil society now that papa bear Trump is telling you it’s okay. But let me send you a message: This is a blip." His words are eerily resonant given the events of Charlottesville just a few weeks ago.

Kai’s response is key: "There is nothing more dangerous in this world than a humiliated man."

Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

8) Cheyenne Jackson is Ally’s ridiculously good-looking therapist.

His name is Dr. Vincent, and he’s suspicious for three reasons:

1) He gives her medication for her anxiety. In the real world, this would be a totally normal, non-suspect thing for a doctor to do. However, in American Horror Story, this might be an example of sinister behavior (remember the Addiction Demon from Hotel?). And when the doctor is kind of hot, it’s even more suspicious.

2) When Dr. Vincent recommends that Ally work out, as that’s how he’s been dealing with the political upheaval, Ally takes a closer look at his body. There’s a totally flirty moment, in which she remarks, "You do look good." Ally is happily married to her wife, Ivy, but could an affair be on the horizon?

3) Dr. Vincent knows all of Ally’s phobias. Has he been feeding this information to whoever is responsible for the clowns that keep appearing?

Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

9) Ally’s coulrophobia manifests in an intensely creepy way.

In the supermarket, the cashier’s "Make America Great Again" cap starts a chain reaction. Ally sees two clowns having sex on the watermelons in the produce section. A man wearing a mask with three faces and riding a scooter chases her down. From the car, she calls her wife Ivy, but as the camera pans, it’s clear a masked creature is sitting on the back seat. In reaction, she crashes her car. Still, no one believes her.

"They knew my fears. They wanted to murder me," Ally says, adding weight to the theory that someone she knows is deliberately sabotaging her life.

10) Ally didn’t vote for Hillary.

She thanks her wife for not telling anyone that she didn’t vote for Hillary, but her choice to vote for an independent is clearly a major source of contention.

11) Winter might be the nanny from hell.

After revealing to Kai that she hates children, Winter applies for the job as Ozzy’s nanny and is hired almost immediately. She’s also terrified of Kai, and he might be the reason she’s taken the job. Later on in the episode, she shows Ozzy snuff videos on the Dark Web. It’s clear she’s about to cause trouble for Ally and Ivy’s family.

It’s also worth noting that her surname is Richards, while Ally and Ivy share the surname Mayfair-Richards. Could she be a relation?

12) There was a Lena Dunham shout-out ahead of her appearance in the season.

Winter proclaims, "My proudest moment was when Lena Dunham retweeted me," regarding her work on the Clinton campaign. Dunham will appear later in the season, as Valerie Solanas, the woman who made an assassination attempt on Andy Warhol.

Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

13) Winter doesn’t call the police when Ozzy witnesses a murder.

Instead, Winter takes Ozzy across the street and makes him look inside a house, where he witnesses a group of clowns murdering Councillor Chang (who wronged Kai earlier in the episode) and his wife. Winter tells the police and his moms that Ozzy imagined the clowns. Is she just covering for them?

Detective Samuels, played by Colton Haynes, rules the crime a murder-suicide. Is he in on the crime, too?

14) Ivy might be gaslighting Ally.

When Ally sees a clown masturbating in the restaurant, Ivy is short with her, and requests that she starts taking her medication. She blames Ally for their dwindling sex life, and she gently, on several occasions, suggests that Ally is ruining their family. Is she gaslighting Ally, a nod to the way the term went viral following Trump’s election?

Clearly, American Horror Story: Cult is going to be filled with references to the election, but it’s going to be every bit as gory and twisty, as every other season of the show so far. Stay tuned for more mayhem.

It’s one of the most illustrious awards ceremonies of the year in the British event calendar, drawing in the biggest names in fashion, music and film to the Tate Modern.

And leading the head-turning style at the GQ Men of the Year Awards 2017 was Poppy Delevingne, 31, Anna Friel, 41, and Jourdan Dunn, 27, in equally figure-flaunting ensembles for the exclusive bash in London on Tuesday night.

In its 20th year, model-turned-actress Poppy was sure to command attention in her sheer haute couture Reem Acra gown which managed to barely cover her modesty with a number of embroidered stars across the chiffon bodice.

The full-length number attempted to deter attention from her bust with its high-neck silhouette and frill-detailed sleeves which added to the Gothic vibe of the ensemble as she made her way up the carpet alongside Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Offsetting the sheer fabric, her skirt flared to the ground in a sea of grey and black tulle with matching ruffle accents and star embroidery.

Having narrowly missed out on completely freeing the nipple, Poppy – who made her acting debut in Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword – continued her skin-flashing display as she showcased her high-waisted black underwear.

Teaming the look with a matching black clutch, the blonde beauty balanced her dramatic ensemble by styling her hair behind her ears to display her fetching drop-earrings.

British actress Anna was sure to lead the fashion charge in her striking semi-sheer lurex Dhela gown which showcased her sensational frame as she stopped for photos along the carpet.

The richly coloured number – which featured hues of purple, maroon, gold, navy and hot pink – oozed seventies vibes as she cascaded to the ground while the fabric gave a glimpse to the silhouette of her undergarments and slender pins.

Stylishly pushing her sleeves, Anna’s retro-inspired dress boasted a plunging neckline which accentuated her ample cleavage and decollatage.

While she highlighted her narrow waist with a eye-catching hot pink belt that wrapped around her petite figure.

The Marcella star added inches to her diminutive height with a pair of platform heels, opting to forgo accessorises for the evening and letting her striking dress do the talking.

Anna finished her head-turning number with a slick of vibrant red lipstick and styled her tresses into a loose chignon while her fringe famed her face.

Elsewhere, supermodel Jourdan Dunn, 27, looked sensational in a strapless velvet black gown which highlighted her enviable figure for the star-studded evening.

Pin-up worthy, the striking fashion star’s sweetheart neckline ensemble complemented her flowing raven locks and strappy stiletto.

Echoing her stylish display, Hole frontwoman Courtney was every inch old Hollywood glamour in her mint-hued slinky number.

The famed rocker poured her womanly curves into the silk full-length gown which skimmed her figure in all the right places while she worked her way up the carpet.

Courtney’s bardot-inspired dress featured thick shoulder straps before wrapping around her back into a caplet that fell stylishly to her pert derriere.

Putting her own twist on her chic look, she carried a snakeskin clutch up the carpet while she decorated her neck with a simple silver chain.

She added to her jewellery display with a number of bangles around her wrist and offset her manicure with an onyx ring.

Storm Keating proved she’d had no problems snapping straight back to her pre-pregnancy weight as she attended the awards.

Showing off her sensational figure in a sheer black gown, the 35-year-old model dazzled as she walked the red carpet with her husband Ronan.

Flaunting every inch of her incredible physique, the blonde bombshell donned an entirely sheer gown with lace panels over her underwear.

Ensuring she didn’t flash too much, Storm – who was named Sharyn by her parents for fear ‘people might make fun of her growing up’ – donned a pair of high-waisted briefs to protect her modesty with her skimpy bra.

Wearing her golden locks in loose waves, Storm sizzled as she cuddled up to Ronan – who looked dapper in a tuxedo.

Turning the style brigade’s attention to the men, Jared Leto, 45, didn’t disappoint as he made a showstopping entrance to the awards, donning a flamboyant scarlet tweed suit for his turn on the red carpet.

Adding a whimsical twist, the Oscar winner’s quirky Gucci outfit featured oversize ebony lapels, decorated with a vibrant floral print.

He paired the look with a red fitted shirt with a white collar and navy tie, with black brogues completing the stylish sartorial ensemble.

The stylish Dallas Buyers Club actor rocked a heavy beard and wore his chestnut locks swept away from his face into a stylish bun, drawing attention to his piercing blue eyes.

They are two of Hollywood’s most acclaimed actresses.

But Julianne Moore, 56, and Liv Tyler, 40, took centre-stage for another reason, as they sizzled in Triumph’s lingerie Autumn/Winter 2017 campaign.

Julianne showed off her age-defying beauty as she sizzled in a black lace bra, while Liv flaunted her pert posterior in a pair of sheer briefs.

Suburbicon actress Julianne showcased her incredibly toned figure in the lacy bra, which she teamed with sheer high-waisted knickers.

Keeping the shoot classy, the mum-of-two added a slinky semi-sheer kimono to the saucy ensemble.

She styled her glossy auburn locks in tumbling waves and framed her features with minimal make-up.

Meanwhile Liv, the daughter of Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler, flaunted her pert posterior in a pair of sheer briefs.

+5

+5

Meanwhile, Liv recently opened up about her family life and living with David Beckham’s best friend Dave Gardner.

Three-years after meeting sports and entertainment manager Dave Gardner, perhaps better known for his long-term friendship with former footballer David Beckham, the American actress, 40, has exchanged her bohemian life in New York for comparative domesticity in London.

Indeed, a busy household finds the couple sharing four children; Sailor Gene, two, and Lula Rose, one, as well as their respective sons from former marriages – Liv’s 12-year old Milo, and Dave’s 10-year old Grey.

+5

Speaking in Red magazine’s October issue, Liv insists it was the desire to extend their families that helped strengthen her relationship with her British fiancé.

‘We both wanted to have a family and children and a partnership and love,’ she explained.

‘Our jobs are high stress and high energy and constantly moving, so it’s really just the family part we’re on the same page about, which is amazing because I know that’s often quite tricky for couples.’

The actress also credited Dave for his hands-on approach to parenthood and willingness to step in as Liv’s hugely successful career continued uninterrupted following her relocation to the United Kingdom.

+5

She recalled: ‘After I moved to England, I reconnected with an agent and within about a week, she said, "I’ve got this job for you," And it was starting the following week.

‘It meant commuting to Leeds for a few days at a time, but it was so good for me and David was just like, "I’ve got this". He was home every night for dinner and bedtime, and holding down the fort.

‘He drops the boys at school every single morning, while I’m standing there at the door in my pyjamas, covered in food, with both babies in my arms.’

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their third child, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

An official statement released today said: ‘Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting their third child.

‘The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news.

‘As with her previous two pregnancies, The Duchess is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum.

‘Her Royal Highness will no longer carry out her planned engagement at the Hornsey Road Children’s Centre in London today.

‘The Duchess is being cared for at Kensington Palace.’

The couple already has two children, Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2.

The announcement confirms predictions that William and Kate would have a third child.

On a royal tour of Poland in July 2017, The Duchess of Cambrudge joked about having a third – after being given a present designed for newborns.

When she was offered a cuddly toy designed to soothe tiny babies during an event for start-up tech companies in Warsaw she turned to the Duke, and said: ‘We will just have to have more babies.’

The news was announced as the royal couple were preparing to send their eldest child, Prince George, off to school for the first time.

They have chosen a fee-paying independent school in a south London borough for their four-year-old son.

Thomas’s Battersea will welcome the young prince and his parents on Thursday.

Princess Charlotte’s royal trip tantrum

The young princess seemed initially unimpressed as the royal family visited an Airbus plant in Hamburg.

On Tuesday, Kate was due to join her husband and Prince Harry to visit the newly-established Royal Foundation Support4Grenfell Community Hub, which provides mental health resources for the children, young people and families affected by the Grenfell fire.

William, who quit his job as a pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance in July to become a full-time royal, is also due to attend the National Mental Health and Policing Conference in Oxford on Tuesday.

The couple’s third child will be born fifth in line to the throne, bumping uncle Harry out of the top five and into sixth place.

The Prince of Wales is first in line, followed by William, Prince George and the couple’s daughter Princess Charlotte, who is two.

The Royal couple is likely to chose a classic name for their third child, just like they did for Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

If the baby is a girl, they are thought likely to pick a traditionally royal name such as Alice – which was the name of one of Queen Victoria’s daughters and also of the Duke of Edinburgh’s mother – or Victoria after the baby’s long-reigning ancestor.

Other suggestions include Alexandra or Mary, the Queen’s two middle names and the names of her grandmother Queen Mary and great-grandmother Queen Alexandra – or Amelia, the name of one of George III’s daughters.

Historically royal names such as James – also the name of Kate’s brother – are among the favourite predictions for a boy, along with Philip, which might be chosen out of respect for William’s grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Other contenders could be Charles, to honour the Prince of Wales, Albert, Arthur, Frederick or even Henry – Prince Harry’s actual name.

The song reflects onto X and how throughout most of his life, there’s been mostly pain and sadness, as shown in the first half.

X soon learned through a series of changes, that if he stayed truthful to his selfish side, and evil, that he’d get what he craves; power and wealth.

So X spoke to the devil (most likely referring to an inner demon) and sold his soul to the devil for these cravings.

North Korea ‘explosion’ points to nuclear test

North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un has threatened ever more missile tests and had boasted this week that the firing of an intermediate-range Hwasong-12 over Japan was a mere "curtain-raiser" (AFP Photo/)

Seoul (AFP) – North Korea appeared to carry out a sixth nuclear test Sunday, with seismic monitors measuring an "explosion" of 6.3 magnitude near its main test site, sending tensions over its weapons ambitions to new heights.

The apparent test came just hours after it claimed to have developed a hydrogen bomb that could be loaded into the country’s new intercontinental ballistic missile.

The South’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that the seismic tremor was detected near the North’s Punggye-ri test site.

United States Geological Survey recorded the magnitude at 6.3 — larger than any previous test.

Jana Pursely, a USGS geophysicist, told AFP: "It’s an explosion rather than an earthquake."

Nuclear-armed Pyongyang has long sought the means to deliver an atomic warhead to the United States, its sworn enemy.

Questions remain over whether it has successfully miniaturised its weapons, and whether it has a working H-bomb, but the official Korean Central News Agency said before the quake that leader Kim Jong-Un had inspected such a device at the Nuclear Weapons Institute.

It was a "thermonuclear weapon with super explosive power made by our own efforts and technology", KCNA cited Kim as saying, and "all components of the H-bomb were 100 percent domestically made".

Pictures showed Kim in black suit examining a metal casing, with a shape akin to a peanut shell.

North Korea triggered a new ramping up of tensions in July, when it carried out two successful tests of an ICBM, the Hwasong-14, which apparently brought much of the US mainland within range.

It has since threatened to send a salvo of rockets towards the US territory of Guam, and last week fired a missile over Japan and into the Pacific, the first time time it has ever acknowledged doing so.

US President Donald Trump has warned Pyongyang that it faces "fire and fury", and that Washington’s weapons are "locked and loaded".

Trump spoke by telephone to Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to discuss the need to "maximize pressure on North Korea" in the face of the "growing threat" it presented, according to a White House readout of the call, without specifying when it took place.

The North has repeatedly claimed that it has a thermonuclear weapon, which can be far more powerful than other nuclear devices.

When it carried out its fourth nuclear test, in January 2016, it said it was a miniaturised H-bomb, but scientists said the six-kiloton yield achieved then was far too low.

When it carried out its fifth test, in September 2016, it did not say it was a hydrogen bomb.

There was no immediate announcement from the North about Sunday’s earthquake.

Yang Moo-Jin of the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul, told AFP the latest KCNA report "carries a strategic message" that Pyongyang "will push for a nuclear face-off with the US as an equal".

Actually mounting a warhead onto a missile would amount to a significant escalation on the North’s part, as it would create a risk that it was preparing an attack.

– ‘Hundreds of kilotons’ –

The North Korean leadership says a credible nuclear deterrent is critical to the nation’s survival, claiming it is under constant threat from an aggressive United States.

It has been subjected to seven rounds of United Nations Security Council sanctions over its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, but always insists it will continue to pursue them.

Its first nuclear test was in 2006, and successive blasts are believed to have been aimed at refining designs and reliability as well as increasing yield.

Its fifth detonation, in September last year, had a 10-kiloton yield according to Seoul — still less than the 15-kiloton US device which destroyed Hiroshima in 1945.

Atomic or "A-bombs" work on the principle of nuclear fission, where energy is released by splitting atoms of enriched uranium or plutonium encased in the warhead.

Hydrogen or H-bombs, also known as thermonuclear weapons, work on fusion and are far more powerful, with a nuclear blast taking place first to create the intense temperatures required.

In Sunday’s announcement before the earthquake, KCNA said the North’s H-bomb had "explosive power that can be adjusted from tens to hundreds of kilotons depending on the target", KCNA said Sunday, claiming technological advances "on the basis of precious successes made in the first H-bomb test".

No H-bomb has ever been used in combat, but they make up most of the world’s nuclear arsenals.

Town After Town Under Water in the 100 Miles From Houston to Beaumont – The New York Times

LIBERTY, Tex. — This was Highway 90, one of the main roads connecting Houston and Beaumont in eastern Texas, on Thursday.

Highway 90 on Thursday in Texas, near Liberty and Beaumont.

When we reached one flooded stretch of the highway, it seemed unsafe to press on. A state trooper reassured us that we could make it through. Beyond that? “That’s as far as I know,” he said.

Many of the people we met seemed to feel the same way. We drove through rural Texas communities to see Hurricane Harvey’s impact beyond Houston. Almost everyone we spoke with felt uncertain about what would happen next.

People spread rumors about what the water was doing each day, but no one knew for sure. The water rose and fell, appearing to follow no logic as it swallowed some roads and made others passable. And residents were left to keep track of it all.

Highway 90 is one of the main roads between Houston and Beaumont, about 100 miles to the east. Long sections of the highway were closed or flooded this week, leaving residents of dozens of small towns in the region stranded.

Floods had devastated towns all along our route. Mud and debris marked the homes and businesses where water had receded, but many buildings were still flooded.

What would normally be a two-hour drive took two days after the storm. We left Houston on Wednesday afternoon in a Chevy Tahoe S.U.V. The main highway between the two cities, Interstate 10, was closed. Almost every other route was flooded too.

We were told about a spill near the Arkema chemical plant in Crosby and tried to avoid it, but all of the roads we tried were blocked. We ended up driving past the plant and could smell the fumes. Nine hours later, while we were sleeping, two storage trailers at the plant exploded.

Throughout the region, boats were used to help residents.

We saw many scenes of solidarity. People helped one another out of the water. They shared advice, updates and supplies. Businesses remained open despite water rising to their driveways.

After we crossed a flooded part of the road, people heading the other way asked if they could make it through the water. We offered our best guesses according to the height of their vehicles. For people in sedans, the safe answer was no.

National Guard convoys, some with dozens of large trucks, rushed past us several times. Police vehicles led trucks towing fishing boats down the highway — volunteers had come from across the country to help.

Large areas of farmland in the region were swamped, like this rice farm near Devers, a few miles down the road. Farming is a critical driver of the economy in this part of Texas, with small and large fields along the highway.

As we entered Beaumont, home to nearly 120,000, the road was bustling, and businesses were open. Things were much worse across town, near the Neches River, where entire blocks were flooded. For some houses, the roofs were the only parts of the structures that were above water.

Nearly 29 inches of rain fell in Beaumont from Tuesday to Wednesday, and when we arrived the next day, the waters were still rising, and routes into the city remained flooded or closed.

Getting food and water was the most immediate concern for many residents we talked to. Lines stretched out of grocery stores, and flooding had shut down Beaumont’s water pumping stations. Federal and state agencies trucked in bottled water. As of Friday, the city was still without running water.

Back on the highway, we became stuck in a nighttime traffic jam in Nome, Tex. Traffic crawled as we waited to pass through. Families watched films in their cars. The air was warm and thick with moisture. It took three hours to drive five miles.
